More Than A Dozen Homes Damaged By Granbury Flood

GRANBURY (CBS 11 NEWS) – Flood waters damaged 20 homes near Granbury with nine deemed unlivable by the American Red Cross.

Upwards to eight inches of rain fell in the matter of a few hours in the area on Sunday.

The Sunchase Acers and Quail Ridge neighborhoods, which both run along normally dry-creek beds, flooded. Shay and Justin Hillard were asleep after working the overnight shift when the heard the water slamming against their house.

“It sounded like a tornado,” said Justin Hillard. “The building shook.”

By the time the two brothers pushed their front door open, the water was waist deep. “I was worried for my life,” said Shay Hillard. “You didn’t know what was going to happen. You could feel the current under the trailer. It was really bad.”

Deputies used an air-boat to rescue the brothers. They were two of 18 the Hood County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday pulled to safety.

When the flood waters receded, Bee Byrd-Williams return home to find her house flooded and her car swept more than a hundred yards down the road.

“This is bad – the worst it’s ever been,” she said. “But we’re all alive and that’s all that matters.”
